Born in Bradford staff are working alongside researchers with international reputations from universities across the United Kingdom including Edinburgh, Loughborough, Bristol, Leeds, Bradford, Imperial College, London School of Hygiene and Medicine and Durham.

A number of the research projects involve Born in Bradford working with large international studies where hundreds of thousands of participants are needed. One such project, called MeDALL (Mechanisms of the Development of Allergy) is due to start soon and will use information from 25,000 mothers, babies and young children to see if the environment at conception,
in-utero and post natal life has a fundamental role in the development of allergies such as asthma and eczema.

Researchers will be looking at areas such as diet, animal contact, raw cow’s milk, antibiotic use, air pollution, diesel particles, indoor irritants (house mites etc), moulds and pesticides to see if these contribute to the development of these very common conditions. Born in Bradford will play a significant part in the study and provide much needed scientific information to try to explain why we seem to be experiencing such an increase in allergic diseases.
