2012 Teddy Bears’ Picnic
Lister Park

This year’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic will take place on Friday 6th July, from 2.30-5.00p.m in Lister Park, Manningham. We have changed the time so that the oldest children, some of whom are now in school, can still attend.

As well as all the health, council and voluntary services giving out information and advice there will be bouncy castles, face painting, Bonnie the Bear and an amazing entertainment by Q20 theatre:

Manjy and Mo international Clowns and Stilt Walkers. Manjy and Mo present a fast moving and visually exciting show. Using skills in mime and stilts, their performance leaps from comedy sketches to slapstick to pathos, constantly somersaulting the audience through joyous japes and fabulous fun!

If you are interested in attending or participating and want to know more then please get in touch with:

In July 2008, to celebrate the oldest children in the cohort reaching their first birthdays, BiB organised a Teddy Bears’ Picnic in Lister Park. Just over 3,000 mums had been recruited at that time and about 200 people attended. For the fourth Teddy Bears’ Picnic in 2011 that number had increased tenfold with around 2,000 people attending the event. Since 2008 the Picnic has grown year on year, both in the number of people attending and the number of stalls and attractions on offer. It is now one of the largest community celebrations in this diverse city bringing together families from all parts of the district.

An important principle was established in that first year, which is that the whole event is free: there is nothing commercial. All the stallholders are people who work in Bradford and are concerned to improve the lives of families in the city. The stalls are from health, council, community and voluntary services and they offer advice and information for families. Each stall is asked to provide an activity for under-fives so that the children can play whilst parents are engaged with the information on offer. BIB staff are also on hand to speak to parents and to answer any questions they might have.

The event is now a fixture in many people’s calendars. It is an exciting way for the Born in Bradford staff to thank all the families who have signed up for this long term study.
